It has been pointed out already, but to make it completely clear :

He can't race 'cos it's against the rules. A team picks the rider for the weekend by noon day 1, ie Suzi picked Capi before he crashed in FP2.

All the press bullshit about Spies deciding not to 'cos of the weather/indy practise/lost track time is exactly what it says on the tin - bullshit.

Apparently I live in a tin with "Bullshit" written on it.

Normally I'm not so lazy. I read the comments saying that the team has to choose their rider by noon day one, remembered that there was a rule somewhat like that, and blazed away without checking the exact wording of the rule. My bad.

The only thing I have to say in my defense is that the "tin" I live in has beer in its fridge and I have been partaking. cool.gif That, at least, explains the lazy ass answer. blush.gif

Very upset to hear Spies won't be running this weekend. He's pretty much handed the win to Stoner.

So what the hell...Stoner wins and Rossi and Pedro battle it out for second/third while Hayden fades along with CV fading and WOW who will finish in fourth....yawn. Okay I'm ordering up some rain...let's mix this one up a bit.
A big welcome to Alvaro Bautista....how you got here matters not. Give it everything you've got.

Funny you say this, I'm starting to feel the same way. Let it be dry right until the Moto GP starts (so the 125's and 250's are still good), then let the rain come. I agree a mix up would be welcome at this point.

Actually, I'm trying a new approach. I realize 99.999999999% of everything he says is just simply trolling. I've tagged him as much. But I want to see if there is a shred of reason and an ability to articulate behind that brain of Pinky. So in this case, yes, I actually would like to know why he thinks Spies, after missing two practices; on an already short schedule is "chicken shit" for not rushing into a very dangerous and technically demanding sport. I'm wondering if he can debate and carry a point with reasonable and logical articulation. (Am I crazy? --maybe) I suppose I just want to give him a chance to turn from his two-line dig quips and carry an intelligent conversation.

You are going to be waiting a very very long time to get what you want on this one Jumkie. Hong Kong must have his interests again. Speaking of Hong Kong, someone post that screenshot again, it's a good laugh.

Hahaha. That is pretty funny Lex. I like your rooting enthusiasm. I feel like that every race weekend about Hayden. I predict he will win every time.

But in Spies defense, perhaps he got word that he would be competing in two AMA championships next year...LINK

Wow, this is a huge bombshell. Looks like we better start a discussion in the Superbike forum though.

Im going to be honest,im disappointed in Spies.Even if he did miss a couple of hours of practice, the track time would be invaluable for next year if for track knowledge alone.I said on another forum i thought this was all about being named the rider for Assen and then having it jerked.I dont care if he runs last, which would be pretty hard to do with Melandri out there cruising, just getting a little knowledge of the track would be worth the weekend.

Povol, you are not alone. That was my first reaction. (You may have noticed Pinky felt similar...well sort of tongue.gif , hence why I wanted to discuss it). But in further analysis of the situation, I thought, well, racing at this level isn't exactly a thing one should take lightly or rush. We often throw around this phrase: "these guys put their lives on the line every time they race." Well it actually has truth. Consider the risks involved in being behind the learning curve a day behind, and throw in again factors of uncertainty. For us sitting here as American fans, of course we want to see him out there and may be disappointed in his decision. We may even question his meddle. But if you put yourself in his shoes, think of the professionalism and restrain he has shown in perhaps NOT jumping/rushing himself into a situation that could be potentially very dangerous. Remember, he is already tagged to ride some more wild cards. On top of that, he has a very important Indy test just days from now. Consider that this is more important, to have a good showing at a home GP, than the track time vs. risk in such short notice.

So yes, I’m not happy he isn’t gonna have a go at Assen. And yes, I might be tempted to question his commitment to and advancement in his career, its has crossed my mind that perhaps he as been hanging around complacent-mladin to much and making him shy from testing himself internationally); but then I began to think about the bigger picture. I think it was a wise decision. Perhaps he too was leaning to jump at the opportunity, but cooler heads prevail.

Or then again, maybe Pinky is right and he is just “chicken shit”.

Anybody else want to chime in one way or the other?

I just watched the FP2 highlights and they were remarkable. When Hayden laid the bike on its side, the front wheel hooked up and the bike turned.

REMARKABLE!

Poor bastard. What did he do to deserve the RC212V? mellow.gif

Spies is in an interesting predicament.
If he qualifies at Assen after just one practice session on a track he hasn't raced on and struggles big time, then he may think it will affect his prospects on gaining a full time ride next year.
I have no doubt if Ben already had a deal for 2009 inked, he would be riding at Assen today.
Personally I think he should just go for it. He still has 2 wildcard rides at Laguna Seca and Indy to impress his prospective bosses. But on the other hand if he does reasonable well here, then his stocks rise further.

Spies is in Assen to race. If Capirossi had've said that his fracture was making riding impossible Spies could have, according to the rules, stepped in before the second practise. As it was it was FP2 and too late. So he didn't even have a decision to make. He's a racer and would've been on the bike if possible. It sounds like everyone started with the same setup they had in Donnington so he could have got going right away one practise behind or not. I am still not happy that they only have one bike on the grid and don't buy the line the arm wasn't a factor in the crash.

A big welcome to Alvaro Bautista....how you got here matters not. Give it everything you've got.

fruitcake? what are you talking about to we was talking about stoners performance not the other riders i will say it again for you ok...

stoner was still fast at the last few tracks but what is giving him the edge now is the electronics upgrade how can you deny that when its in front of you on paper and proven in his laptimes?

i was discusing stoner not other ducati riders i wasnt taking anything away from stoner, no panic here just saying that this time with better electronics stoner is riding quicker.

how is that panic , how is that taking away credit? unlike you i was trying to understand the sudden improvement in times........ ok let me put it like this......

what is the only thing that is different since the test?

bike ? rider ? or electronics?

its same rider , same bike , different electronics hmm....... you have your answer

No ...... you are a fruitcake because the implication of your whole babble here is that Stoner should not adjust or attempt to fix his bike in any way .... if indeed you have a point .... they are motoGP bikes ...... things get changed every meet ...... are you seriously saying Stoner did not have input into sorting the problems they had with the electronics settings? ohmy.gif

Stoner adjusts his bike to get he best out of it ....... as does every other rider ..... what is your point!?? rolleyes.gif
Driver of the Big ben's Pies wagon!! .......whilst remaining a Stoner, mind you.

This, don't forget, is on Tarmac at speeds of 20-30mph'.

Perhaps this defines "kids skids" ?

Well try that at say speeds of 60mph plus Arab. let alone 150mph plus :o

According to Arab, Backing it in is initiated by the rear brake and downshifting, I disagree.

so rossi who was losing last year, and complaining about the bike and tires, but when he starts winnning this year, its all down to his skills??? hahaha

when rossi wins its coz of his skills, but when stoner wins its coz his bike is better.

in catalunya when rossi had by far the better, more stable, more ridable bike, stoner finished .5 seconds off rossi

on equal machinery stoner rips all over rossi.
