Things should be interesting this weekend. I think it looks good for Hayes this weekend. I expect Cardenas to make a move if he can keep the bike upright.

Haven't seen any of the races, but here are my impressions based upon scoring.

1. Congrats to Hayden and Hayes who are having a nice close battle at the front for the championship. Both are fighting hard.

2. Congrats to Brett McCormick. His placings in the last 6 races: 21st, 13th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 5th

3. Johnny Rock Page in 12th Awesome

4. There aren't enough bikes on the grid. SBK is already missing Young, Yates, and Hopkins. Imo, Waters, McCormick, and Holden all deserve a ride in SBK. Ku Roberts and E Bostrom also need full time rides for next year. Possibly DiSalvo as well. Cardenas wants to move up to SBK and Herrin says his Moto2 ambitions are starting to fade. Eslick is ambivalent about what he wants to ride. AMA SBK is looking at the possibility of needing to find sponsors and support for another 6-8 motorcycles. Imo, there only hope is if 1 or 2 of the manufacturers come back. Maybe Kawasaki will want to field 2-4 bikes for 2011 with their new SBK. Maybe BMW or Aprilia will play. Honda seems out of the question, but you never know.

Rules changes could help a lot, too b/c right now, it's damn near impossible for privateers without Graves or Yosh links to make any headway. I'm sure neither outfit is unwilling to supply technical assistance with the engines, but I think I remembered reading that each bike is like a $40,000 lease. You've got to figure that's a least $250,000 per season unless you never hit the deck. I think piston mods would be a better use of money. Companies like JE can get privateers to 13+ compression for around $1,000. The competitors actually own that tech. High compression with a power commander might get you to within 10-15hp of the "factory" bikes. With just a power commander, I suspect some of these privateer bikes are at least 20-25hp short. An additional 10hp for $1,000? Sounds good to me. Plus, a local garage can bolt the pistons in without much trouble. It's a lot easier than just grinding the cylinder head. Just make sure the pistons have a min weight and no titanium.

5. I've heard a lot of rumors that BSB is either moving to all Evo or they are going to continue detuning SBKs by using spec electronics and perhaps stock externals (like WSS, AMA). This news can only be good for the AMA. Even the Brits have decided that the extra $100,000 per bike does not provide $100,000 better entertainment.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. ITS THE RIDERS. All the rules changes in the world will not make any difference. It was the riders when Suzuki had the so called advantage and its the riders now. Let me get this straight, the new slow bike rules were supposed to help the privateers, now if they can go faster, it will help them.

For instance, stock GSXR 1000 is 12.8:1 compression, but b/c AMA use higher octane fuel than WSBK (98 vs. 96), the engine needs to be 14-14.25:1 in race trim. Currently the teams modify the cylinder heads and gaskets to raise compression, but it is expensive and most private teams can afford it. However, most privateers can probably scrape together $1,000-$1,500 for a high compression piston kit and installation. It will get them within 10hp of the "factory" bikes for much lower cost.

I knew Honda was able to run high compression pistons so I went to AMA Pro to see what the part number was. When I pulled up the eligible equipment list, I saw that they have homologated high compression pistons for the Suzuki as well. I guess AMA Pro is already one step ahead of me. Now they just need to add piston kits to DSB where they make a really big difference.

Josh, Josh, Josh. How in the fuck do you throw away a half seasons work protecting second place on a part of the track that you had been strongest all weekend.. Rapp didnt stand a chance of beating him there. Cardenas, what can you say. He is the Forrest Gump of motorcycle riding. They tell him to go fast and he does, till he hits something. Like Gump, maybe they can have fans hold up placards when he needs to brake and turn, his mind is stuck on WOT. Maybe he should just become a Bonneville racer. Pin it, put your head down and go as fast as you can. Of course that silly fucker would probably run into the mountain a couple of miles from the finish line.

Just got finished watching the race action for Mid-Ohio, DSB race was fun to with Fong really surprising everone with a well earned 2nd and 3rd for the weekdn....Hey Jumkie...Fong is from Stockton, ever seen this kid at track days?
Good battle between B-Boz and Hayes first race and good to see Hayden get a little more aggressive in the second race and take the win. On to Laguna and the Jumkie report!

Are you talking about actually competing, or just putting more bikes on the grid. If your talking about competing, i dont care what rules package you have, the better riders will be at the pointy end. I dont know whats so hard to understand about that.. If they mandated bikes have to be showroom without lights and blinkers and you could enter a bike for 10 grand, the same guys would be at the front.
