Does he have to up the level to full contact? Maybe the only way around him when he is riding like this is through him.

How does he beat him?

Plllllllllease can we give this sort of shit a rest?

Its been done to death now.

Anyone with an ounce of gumption knows that its Stoner that makes the difference, and the combo packages of tyres, bike & casey jsut works.........otherwise we'd have 3 other ducati's at the front.

Jerry Burgess: "Valentino moved through the field in Barcelona and everyone that he passed got a riding lesson."

"I think that if Casey had raced in the '80s and '90s with Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Rainey and Mick Doohan, he'd have seen that every weekend," the Australian told the official MotoGP website. "It was probably something that he wasn't particularly expecting; [he] probably expected to win the race easily like he'd dominated in the practices."

"Pedrosa put up so little a fight it would have embarrassed a Frenchman"

The Ducati and the Yamaha are equal in that the Yamaha handles better but has lower power and the Ducati has more power yet doesn't quite handle like the Yamaha so all in all they are very close. It is up to the riders now and the question is how does Stoner negate the blocking/checking race style if he doesn't want to get so physical that they both are run off the track? I think that Pedrosa returning will ruin this strategy by Rossi because it will only work with the 2 of them fighting alone for the front. Once you add a 3rd rider to the mix he will have to open up the race line.

Yea Dani will change things if he can keep up. Either way i don't think Stoner has to resort to Rossi's racing values to win. He can do it his way

To consider Kevin Schwantz an equal rider to Rainey, Doohan and Lawson is to overrate him. His entertainment value, popularity and legendary status can be compared (and is arguably superior) to those he rode against, but he achieved significantly less on the track.

Yeah, this has been done to death. Even Schwantz (someone I have enormous respect for) was still making stupid remarks like this one on race day.

Mainly when the Duc would pass Vale on the straights. The straight is only 600 meters; the hill is about the same. All bikes on the grid have enough power to hang with one another if properly geared.

If I remember correctly, gearing has always been an issue for Rossi at Laguna.

Laguna is notoriously hard to pass on and is a tight track. I doubt we'll see this kind of thing at the level we've seen it for the rest of the year. The same tactics might not work as quite as well at other tracks.

Casey need to get the holeshot and stay out front, if Rossi get's in front of him...Rossi has too much experience. We've seen him shut down Pedrosa but Casey has more fight in him, we shall see.

A true fan in our midst.

gsfan I believe stoner has to ride like Rossi, blood on the track racing. Rossi is the sort of guy that will do whatever he can to bring the race to him, smart. When he passes he commits, but I also get the feeling it doesn't matter so much how the other rider comes out of it, if you run onto the dirt why the fuck do I care, if I push you wide, give a shit Im in the lead and I will do whatever it takes to stay there. Good or bad Rossi rides hard, clean if he can, but a little bit of dirt never hurt anyone.

At Laguna Stoner had one chance (his pass at turn 3) to really run Rossi wide and off track and IMO he should have taken it.

Of course Stoner could just clear off into the distance and not deal with it smile.gif

Oh it's that simple, how did I miss it? Someone quick, go tell Melandri, Elias and Guintoli that all they have to do is show up and they can win too!

Rossi's strategy likely won't work at many more places because there isn't a track on the schedule that is as short, slow and with as few overtaking opportunities. It was a brilliant ride, no doubt, but he will have to find something else for the remainder of the season.

This may have been his point in the BBC/autosport thing, although as on previous occasions it perhaps would have been better to have thought rather than said it.

I will defend his on track behaviour, in races at least, in the last 2 seasons though. He has gone out of his way so to speak not to crash into others; I thought he did very well not to take out the other 2 riders in his second off track excursion at jerez for which he received criticism rather than praise.

On the autosport thing david brivio seems to be trying to needle him, whilst understandably defending valentino; I am not convinced this will work.

Risky riding that way. You can't get away with it forever. Possibly, Stoner is kicking himself right now thinking the same thing about the turn 3 comeback. Rossi was right at the edge of the rumble strip on that one. Hopper was amazed. So was I. Seems like a lot of risk for a 5 point gain but at the end of the year it may make all the difference as like has been said, the remaining tracks may not favour the Yamaha as much.

I have to say that the question here about "how does Casey go about beating Rossi?" is nuts. He beats him like he has all the other times. He goes out and kicks his butt by going fast in practice, get pole and get teh lead in the race and check out. Glad that valentino won the race and it was a barnburner but I wonder what valentino would have said if Stoner raced the way Vale did and won. THat would be a better topic I think.

Good point, Laguna is a circuit that really suits the Yamaha, Who knows what will happen after summer but as it is now Rossi NEEDS to win races like yesterday.

nice try. rolleyes.gif

rossi won a race. and there was much rejoice. ya. you would think he just won the championship. anyway, gonna be a great rest of the year. the championship is definitely heating up, and i for one can't wait.

as far as answering the question this thread was designed for...

casey has already answered this question. get in front, stay in front, and win races.
maybe if rossi did a better job at his starts, he'd have a better shot at winning more races.
