F1 held its last race at the ''The Green Hell'' in 1976, the year when nicky lauda was burnt.
With such massive improvements in driver safety within the car why cant F1 return to Nurburgring ? How cool would that be, 14 challanging miles of flowing track !
They race monaco, adelade, canada, soon to be shangha street and talk of paris, so why not the ring ?
This place has to be the best F1 track in the world ? I think so.

The track is miles too fast for its run-off areas, it wont happen.

Car might be safe, but if you do not have a safe circuit, then the safe car is pretty pointless.

The list of reasons not to go back is nearly endless.

Apart from safety ? What else ? Pesonallly i think If they can race monaco and canada both tracks with no run off, why not Nordschleife ?

DRIILL said another great reason. The cars over 15 laps or whatever would have massive suspension failure. If you ever saw Champ Car at Miami in 2002-2003, or San Jose in 2005, the cars were hitting the bumps like woop sections.

Plus, ARMCO is not a prefered choice for safety in F1 venues now. Sand and tires are the choice.



F1 cars could probably do about 120mph through this section, but if they went off into the wall, they go through it.

I am not saying run the race as the track is now, obviously some changes would need to take place, as you say drill the bumps would not be so suited to modern f1 so maybe smoothin out sections and change the armco to current standards or as strong as Canada, maybe tyres of air barrier ?
Iam sure that 15million spent on it would see it done, and thats only one years salary for lewis hamilton.
So you see drill it aint that unwise to consider !
How much of amazing race would that be ! interest in F1 would go through the roof !
Consider that Bernie E wants to the french GP to race though the centre of paris, so is a race at Nordschleife that bad of an idea ? I think not.

It could, but the circuit has spectating issues. Each lap would take what, 8-9 minutes? That is going to not make many happy when they get to see the cars only 14-15 times for only a corner or two.

The televsion crew to broadcast this race would have to be double it's size to get cameras on every corner and straight.

Team would not like it as well, as the current rules stat you have to run more than one race per gearbox, I think a coule hundred shifts per lap would put the gearbox through its paces and would be tough to do.

15 million pounds would not cover the costs of a 9 miles section. True, it isn't Britain, where things take forever to do, and cost too much to think about. That is about 1.6 million per mile, and with facilites needing to be built every couple miles on the course, there is about a million there. Maybe 30-40 million pounds to rebuild the section.

Plus, Bernie is trying with all his might to leave Europe. He left San Marino, wants to leave Frace and Britain (does anyone think Donington will get done by 2010?). He put the Germand GP on a revolving schedule to move the European GP to Spain (growing country for F1).

Bernie wants the British GP in London. Like Paris, it will not happen as these cities have financial issues that would make paying for a Grand Prix too much. I love street circuits, and so does Bernie, but Euro has seemed to lost interest in F1, money-wise, so he is moving.

Dion are you talking about running the full ring, is'int there already an F1 circuit sectioned out of the ring thats about 2 or 3 miles long?

I'm confused when was the last F1 race at the Ring? Last time I wastched F1 they raced at Hockemheim but that video I already posted of Kimi's crash is from 2005

F1 has raced at Hockenhiemring since Lauda's crash. Nurburgring returned in '84

The Nurburgring was run last year as the Eurpoean Grand Prix. Won be Alonso at McLaren.

They ran the EuroGP at Hockenhiemring and German GP at Nurburgring, but now that the EuroGP moved to Valencia.

I think your mistaken your tracks, Nordschleife (Nurburgring) Is the old track run over 14 miles, nurburgring is the new track built on the side of the old one.

Yes, I know that. I think to run this though, you'd have to add the other section. My math was using the 14 miles as part of the new circuit.

Well mate,as much as I also would like to see it happen myself,its just not going to be profitable to F1 imo.

Nordschleife is damn fun circuit, but it's just impossible for it to ever return to F1 for reasons stated already. It could be possible with pretty much an unlimited budget, but of course that won't happen..

F1 seems to have an unlimited budget. I think it may if Bernie wanted it. Schumacher got involved then things defo could happen

It's NEVER going to happen. There's far too much to change, and why?

If for history's sake, why not use the old banking at Monza? Or reuse the larger Hockenheim?
