I've been searching the web lately for some more history of bike racing, and I came across these vids on youtube. and since we dutch play a minimum role with our Hugo vd B in the 125cc, I've started with looking up our world champions.

lets bring back the 50cc! we dutch were great on those cool.gif

Will 'The White Giant' Hartog winning in assen in 1977. my dad was there too biggrin.gif

how great would it have been to be there in those days, when actually the dutch were able to win a GP for a change

'Jumping Jack' Middelburg

those were some good days huh. the more I'm watching bits and pieces from those days on youtube, the more I like it. wished my dad would have recorded all those races...

btw, I'm not quite sure if I'm posting this in the right place. figured it had nothing to do with motogp or with sbk's and that this would've been the best place *or the lounge...*

barry sheene, kenny roberts and Will Hartog battling at silverstone. awsome!

jarno saarinen in hockenheim 1973. he truly was amazing, still a tragedy he died in 1973 in monza. actually today it's been 35 years a go!

yeah he is. I've met him a couple of times in Francorchamps during the race of the champions, he's a very friendly guy.

This is purely an observation at my advanced age, but I suspect that you personally would find find that most guys, dutch or otherwise, are fairly friendly.

Sorry, I was being silly and didn't intend to be offensive. You are obviously intelligent and have a good sense of humour going by your posts and guys would have many other reasons to be friendly to you other than your good looks, about which I am sure you have had more comments than you would prefer since you posted your picture.

Jerry Burgess: "Valentino moved through the field in Barcelona and everyone that he passed got a riding lesson."

"I think that if Casey had raced in the '80s and '90s with Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Rainey and Mick Doohan, he'd have seen that every weekend," the Australian told the official MotoGP website. "It was probably something that he wasn't particularly expecting; [he] probably expected to win the race easily like he'd dominated in the practices."

"Pedrosa put up so little a fight it would have embarrassed a Frenchman"

smile.gif you didn't offended me, it's all good

it was actually quite funny with Will Hartog, my dad and me walked towards him and my dad wanted a signature for my mom. and Hartog turns to me with a slightly confused look on his face, saying: 'are YOU his wife?!?! ohmy.gif ' laugh.gif laugh.gif

a round on Spa Francorchamps with Giacomo Agostini. it's in french, but you're not missing anything if you don't understand it. as far as my french goes, he only tells where he rides, how many corners it follows (right, left, right), in which gear he rides it and if it's fast or not. but a very good vid!

Great to see so many classic videos in one thread

Splinter Road is amazing, no brakes not much in the way of protective gear and at over 100mph those guys had guts, 8 deaths in one race that must be a record

Australia, Mount Panorama is 6 or so kilometres of public road that winds up a few hills, across the top and then down again onto what used to be a damn long straight, but today has been modified slightly following a car accident.

The track is well known in car circles as the home of the infamous Bathurst V8 Car Races held yearly around October, but in years past also hosted motorcycle races .

This video is onboard footage taken from 1981 of Dennis Neill as he has a practice lap on his CB1100R. The video includes Dennis talking his way around the track whilst the video is being shot and really the video does give a great look at the track

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJSlro-47Ns

On race day, Dennis found that things didn't quite go as planned.
