From talking to my friends and judging the low thread count on race discussions on boards such as this,Is Moto Gp running out of steam. It seems when we have a dominant rider, people seem to tune in to the sport to check that guy out and see what all the talk is about. We have had 4 races and 4 different winners and.I guess human nature is to like dominance, they dont seem to like partity.I would be interested to see tv numbers this year compared to last for the first 4 races.

It's still early to come to that conclusion, we have only four races and only two in European soil.., well I think this year we see Rossi is getting a good overall package, a strong Pedrosa, a new Lorenzo, and yet to see a real performance of Stoner...I think the championship fight is going all the way to the last race. And it's good for the sport. rolleyes.gif

People like close racing, it's simple. This season, there aren't many intense last lap battles. The races are more processional than the 990 era.

Who can forget 2006?

We had 6 or 7 winners in 2006, but the racing was out of this world, which made people tune in.

We had 6 or 7 winners in 2006, but the racing was out of this world, which made people tune in.

Nonetheless, mainstream audiences are glory hunters and don't like it when Rossi looses. It's the Manchester United syndrome. Remember amid the obligitary yellow fever at Donington in '06, and the sad bastards that booed Pedrosa in Parc Ferme, or the treatment of Casey at last years Day of Champions auction? Rossi is bigger than the sport itself, and that's always a bad thing.

990's produced better racing and were a better spectacle end of story. We now have the ludicrous situation in which the Ducatis in the proddy based series are nealy half a litre bigger than the bikes of the four stroke prototype blue ribbon class. This all stems from Suzuka where we lost all the wrong things. Firstly, one of the greatest prodigies in racing in decades. Secondly, the track itself (granted, parts of it were unsafe - but lets go to Laguna instead???? -go figure) - a great circuit axed; and third those awesome one litre machines which during their final year produced the best racing since the late 80's early 90's 500cc era.
What we should have lost instead was 1/Butler and Uncini /2/ petty over zealous micromanagement which instead snowballed in the following years, and /3/the inluence and interference of the big manufacturers in the rule making process. I'm afraid IRTA has sadly lost sight of its original purpose.

HRC pressed to emasculate this series. We now have processional racing, and bikes which are ironically lapping faster than their supposedly more dangerous predecessors, (and now, looking to exceed their straightline speed).

Four different winners or not, It'll be a long time until we see another race like Sachsenring or Estoril '06.

if you think motogp is the best sport you really need to go to any supermoto race, balls out racing from start to finish

dont get me wrong motogp is great and they have the most money, best machines and a big following but in a racing sense its far from the best

++1. when was the last race where the lead changed on the last lap- Sepang 2006? ANYONE winning a race by 3, 7, 15 seconds, and when the race is over with 3 or 4 laps to go....its just not all that exciting.

Aye, i may of exaggerated a bit there, the best sport is DH mountain biking!! biggrin.gif

Supermoto is class aswell, there just isnt enough coverage! I reckon the moto-gp of yesteryear was good enough to rival supermoto though....

Did '06 ruin viewership? laugh.gif

The sport is lame. Motogp.com sucks. Dorna chased us off of our domain b/c they thought it would help motogp impact.

Fans be damned. That is Dorna's moto.

You could write an encyclopedia about all the terrible moves made in the last year or two, but the above is all you need to know.

It will be fixed in 5-10 years. The same time table for the 990s.

--------------------
Next DORNA rule: Rider minimum weight = 60kg. If Ezy thinks I'm going to idolize a 5' emaciated horse jockey he's sadly mistaken. Enough broken bones and sunken in faces, this is getting disgusting.

Who can forget Mugello 2006.

Perfect weather. Gibby and Capi side by side flying by Bracks at 180mph. Rossi coming back from 5th to win after his big mistake.

*shivers*

What the hell has Ezy done? mellow.gif

Worst of all, I can't even watch the race anymore b/c the changed the damn site. mad.gif

Casey was boo'd at the British GP because he said the track was crap in an interview. That's why he was boo'd. It had nothing to do with Rossi.

AHHH MAN!..i'm not going to Laguna this year! dry.gif sucks...would have loved to drink you two wankers under the table laugh.gif

on topic: The racing is no longer close...bring back the 990 monsters...ditch the 800 mini bikes.

--------------------
Jerry Burgess: "Valentino moved through the field in Barcelona and everyone that he passed got a riding lesson."

"I think that if Casey had raced in the '80s and '90s with Kevin Schwantz, Wayne Rainey and Mick Doohan, he'd have seen that every weekend," the Australian told the official MotoGP website. "It was probably something that he wasn't particularly expecting; [he] probably expected to win the race easily like he'd dominated in the practices."

"Pedrosa put up so little a fight it would have embarrassed a Frenchman"

Damn I really hope to make it there this year. I usually sit up on the hill around turn 2 but I may mix it up this year. Did you guys get grandstand tickets? The only reason I may not make it this year is that my wife and I just had a baby 2 weeks ago and I don't really know if we can find someone to watch him just yet. Laguna is only a 2.5 hour ride for me unless I roll up the 1 which is one of the best rides out there, barring the traffic isn't too bad. I love the races there but I also like to watch everyone roll in on there bikes. Anybody see that Repsol gang that rolled in last year. WOW!! Very nice.

On Topic

Im not sure if I understand the question??

Parity (sports) refers to engineering an equal playing field in which all teams can compete, regardless of their economic circumstances.

I would think that this would be for the better so unless you are going sadistically deep with this I really don't get it. If this were the way that they were heading then we would have a control tire, TC, rev limit, etc. I guess some may argue that they are heading in that direction. Control Fuel, CC limit, etc. Which is that we are talking about here?
