A number of sites are saying that Shanghai is definitely gone for 2009 ... and beyond. What a shame ... not!

I'm sure the Dalai Lama won't be crying about that decision! tongue.gif

Let's hope the wankers at DORNA bring back Istanbul!

That is not in the hands of Dorna. Bernie Ecclestone bought the circuit last year and raised the fee from 3 million to 25 million, thus making it unaffordable for DORNA.
I agree that it should come back, it is the only decent Tilke track and it works for F1 and MotoGP.

I vote for South-Africa or Brasil, ok timezones for TV and I haven't visited those continents yet anyway so good for a trip too.

Happy to see Shanghai go as well. I vote for adding back in another Euro track, so we get more back to back racing. How about Monza, but make it a nostalgia race where all the riders have to ride retro bikes from the 60's, time to separate the men from the boys. But seriously, I liked Istanbul, would like to see that one back. Brands Hatch perhaps, I think it's been discussed before as being too small. Magny Cours perhaps?

Give me one race at post season. Everyone gets the same bike, tires, electronics, etc. Let them race it out so we can finally put to rest who is the best "rider".

Really pleased to see they are getting rid of a Tilke track.

Maybe they are finally walking the walk when it comes to improving safety. It starts and ends with the circuit. Very little can be achieved by messing with the bikes. rolleyes.gif

Anyway, I hope they bring back Brazil at the Autodromo Nelson Piquet. The circuit is scheduled for demolition but maybe it will be spared if Dorna go back? unsure.gif

Another cool idea would be to run the same circuit twice. For instance, run Jerez on the first weekend of the season then again on the last. It would be cool to see how much the bikes progress over the course of one season. It would be interesting to see how much the race outcome changes over 1 year of bike and tire development, rider injuries, and team experience.

Rotate the opening round so we don't get sick of seeing the circuit 3 times in 12 months.

Well, as everywhere else the market is driven by availability and demand. With his initial price there can't be much other than F1 racing there. If Dorna want to get it back on the schedule I'd say they have a fair chance by negotiating the price.
As you say it's not the only alternative and that should give them a strong position in negotiations.
I guess it's in the interest of Bernie to have MotoGP there both as the top of motorcycle racing and also as motorcycles are the least abusive to the track.

If they can afford Big Bernie's track fee at Istanbul.

Austin, I believe Suzuka got the cut, because the bikes just got too fast for the track, and after Daijiro Kato's fatal accident.

Same thing with Suzuka. Even with the modifications made that winter, the track still lacks the adequate run offs for the bikes. Eau Rogue is dangerous for cars, imagine with a bike going the same speed, if not faster?

If this is true, the best track would be Istanbul or Welkhom Park in South Africa.

I know but from what I understand Suzuka has made a few upgrades since MotoGP left after Kato's death. It's a beautiful track and if the safety has been improved then I would love to see the series go back.

Oh, I didn't know that. If the track had some proper run offs on every, or nearly every corner, it could be run, but then you run into two Japanese races. True most teams run bikes from Japan, the luster for bike racing is not big in Japan though. So two races would be tough, same with two USGP's.
